I had 10 glorious days off for Christmas break this year. Greg also saves up some of his vacation time and we share the entire break together. We started the break celebrating with Greg’s side of the family, spent 6 days in NY visiting with family and friends and then Greg and I went back to PA without our little girl. Grammy desperately wanted her own time with Victoria, which I wasn’t sure about at first because it was our time off to be with her too. The more I thought about it, and the distance between us, and the lack of visits to NY over the course of year and V’s obsession with her Grammy, we decided it would be a good idea to have her stay a few extra days. My mom called it “Grammycation” and as always, V gave her a run for her money, but she loved every minute of it.
While V was in NY Greg and I immediately got to work at home, doing all the things we have been wanting to do since we moved in, like hang pictures on the wall and paint! The biggest things on the list, paint 2 bathrooms in 1 day, something that would have never been accomplished with little V running around. We even had time to run to Lowes when the paint color was all wrong. As New Year’s Eve approached, it was a race against time to get things checked off the list, approximately 42 things, if anyone was counting. To date, we have painted 7 rooms since moving in and after this I have officially been on a painting STRIKE! We painted and redecorated both bathrooms (V’s bathroom is monkey theme and downstairs bathroom is beach theme from our old house), put away Christmas, hung our degrees and other frames in the den, completed an impromptu toddler room transformation among many other odds and ends.
It all started with the flower mirror that I found at Home Goods (the BEST place for girl bedroom décor, hands down) and we soon found ourselves hanging and rearranging for hours in her room. I will call this phase I of the room makeover because I do plan to get all white furniture once we upgrade her bed size and add a few more decorations, but for now, her room is perfect! Check it out for yourself…
The only baby thing that remains is her Winnie-the-Pooh lamp (because I have not found the perfect one yet). The picture to the right are the Great Grandma flowers from my gram’s funeral (the grandma Victoria is named after).
Greg painted the walls, added the chair rail and hung the curtains a few months ago. We have both of her dressers in her “dressing room” for now because otherwise I would spend most of my morning routine picking up all of the clothes she has decided to dump or we would have taken multiple trips to the ER because she feels the need to climb them, so for now it is safer and cleaner to have them in the other room.
Her room will continue to be a work-in-progress, but we are really happy with how it is transforming from the baby room to our little girl’s room!
